Accent on Wine
Located in Hutchinson Square, at 132 Main Street in Summerville, is a quaint wine shop with more to offer than meets the eye. Whether you’re coming in for a quick glass after work, a bottle (or two) to take home for dinner or one of their curated tastings— Accent has you covered.
They also have several other locations (Park Circle, Whitehall and Point Hope), but I’m a little biased to this particular shop. Not only for its proximity to my apartment, but because of the outstanding staff. Their knowledge of wines and service is unmatched.
Charcuterie
Sweet or savory— Accent allows you to build your own board. (Pictured is peppered salami, bresaola, smokey park cheddar, and drunken goat.)
The variety of meats/cheeses and accompaniments is always served up aesthetically and with fresh baguette. They even offer their boards as carry-out if you are hosting at home.
You can choose one or many, their boards accommodate any party size or appetite; offering anything from salmon to spreads. Accent also features desert boards that feature chocolate, macaroons and other sweet treats if savory isn’t your bag.
Wine Tastings
Offered every Tuesday night (6-8pm), featuring four wines, with a story for $14.
We’ve made it a habit to stop by on Tuesday nights for their tastings. They vary every week, but normally highlight two whites and two reds of a particular theme (whether that be soil type, location, one vineyard or flavor profile). They bring in a rotating cast of sommeliers from the distributors they work with (or in house staff) to talk on the wines’ behalf— explaining the process behind the flavors your tasting and why those particular wines were chosen for the evening.
It’s a fun reason to be out of the house on a week day night, unwind and learn something from their wonderful sommeliers. I can honestly say that my tastes in wine have shifted and broadened since coming to these tastings. We’ve learned a lot more about what to shop for, or look for on a restaurant menu when out to dinner. I’m happy to be capable of reading a wine list and knowing more interesting options than just a standard cab or chardonnay. I’ve gotten more out of these evenings than the training received from most wine reps i’ve worked with over the years and enjoyed my time while doing it.
Among the Bottles
Walls lined with carry-out or drink-in bottles, with tables tucked around to enjoy a glass and decompress.
Tastings included, Accent is first come, first serve. They provide a comfortable environment to try something new— or sit with an old favorite with good company. Before and after dinner, or for a mid day pick-me-up Accent on Wine is always a good choice.
